Greetings from Denali National Park & Preserve

I'll be the first to admit that it takes a lot to make an impression on me. I'll also plead guilty to being pretty jaded about amazing wildlife and outdoorsy experiences having grown up in Eagle River, Alaska for most of my life. Having spent so long in Alaska, the idea of working at Denali National Park for a summer seemed kind of odd to be entirely honest. I'm happy to say that I was wrong about it being odd and that I could still be left breathless by how vast and untouched much of interior Alaska remains.

I met a lot of great folks while I worked up in Denali for that one summer and I still speak with many of them to this day. They remind me of a simpler time in my life where our biggest concern was getting enough people together for volleyball tournaments and what we would do for our talent show performance. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world and meet some incredible people but I still consider working in such an amazingly beautiful part of our country to be the bar by which all other experiences are measured.

Sincerely,
Ian

“ The desire to change our way of thinking is a proactive kind of feeling but regret and shame only arise after the fact; when it's too late. Let us not wish we had been more accountable and wonder what happened to such wonderful pieces of our great nations history after they have been parceled and dissected into sparse reminders of their sublime majesty. Let us, instead, continue to be good stewards to the land which has provided us with so many rich and wonderful personal experiences and stories of good times shared with good people in a great land. ”

National parks represent the best of America. Why do you care about protecting and preserving them? Tell us why parks matter to you!
