My husband and I grew up in the Valley, so Shenandoah National Park has been our home-up-the-mountain for as long as we can remember. Drives along Skyline Drive with family in the fall are a tradition, along with day hikes with friends. A couple summers ago the rangers hosted a night hike of Hawksbill Mountain to see the full moon, and it was magical! They were happily overwhelmed with the visitor response, but everyone was kind and helpful, and we took turns in groups to be at the top of the overlook to see the moon and watch the ISS pass overhead. This is one of my favorite experiences with our children, and I can’t speak highly enough of our park staff for doing that for us.
Sincerely,
Shenandoah National Park
