I am now a senior citizen, but, as my family lived relatively close to Shenandoah National Park, we took many day trips to marvel at the beautiful mountain scenery and enjoy picnic lunches in spring, summer, and fall. My parents continued these trips so that my children could experience the natural beauty of this park. The park was clean and had safe overlooks for photo memories. Although, I have visited other sites, too, this one is special to me.
Sincerely,
Shenandoah National Park
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, Shenandoah features rolling tree-lined hills, wooded hollows, spectacular waterfalls and a diversity of wildlife, all easily accessible from the scenic Skyline Drive. The park preserves a remarkable slice of southern Appalachian natural history and beauty with a dazzling array of recreational opportunities.

“The National Parks were and still are special areas of our country set aside for the enjoyment of American citizens and other visitors. Most importantly, to me, they are available for people of any socio-economic level to enjoy. Because of these parks, people who cannot afford expensive vacations, can take advantage of park visits that are free or of minimal cost. Parks need proper maintenance to keep them safe and welcoming; therefore, employment of trained staff is essential. Those in government who would decrease funds to maintain these parks need to recall and rethink. Purpose for which national parks were established: Enhance government wealth? NO! Provide enjoyment of these national treasures? YES!”
