I backpacked down to Bright Angel Campground with my daughter and a 71 year old friend who wanted to hike down one last time in August. It was a brutal time to hike but after 3 years trying to get a permit during a cooler time we decided to do it. I was dehydrated the day after hiking down. Two park rangers talked to me and told me to drink 2 more liters of electrolytes that day before going to bed (we were hiking up to Havasupai Gardens the next morning. They also told us to sleep with a wet T-shirt draped over us. Thanks to their advice I was in good shape to hike the next day. One of the rangers was also hiking up to Havasupai Gardens the next day and he helped our older friend whose boot sole had come off. He hiked with him and even carried his backpack for a bit. He went above and beyond to help our friend. Park rangers save lives.
The ranger talks we attended were very interesting and informative.
Sincerely,
