My visit to Fort Funston
Growing up in San Francisco Fort Funston has loomed over the city my whole life. So when I say I’ve never actually been in the park means it I’ve taken it for granted. Everyone in my family has walked our dog in the park and I thought it was about time I did too. On a sunny afternoon I ventured with my roommate and my dog into the sand dunes of Fort Funston. The first thing I notice as I drove in was the hang gliders off the coastal parking lot flying in the wind. These people were enjoying the sun in the air while dozens of dogs and their owners walked through the trees. Continuing to walk I enjoyed the old cement relics of some forgot infrastructure. The view of the city and surrounding beaches made this trip complete. Fort Funston seems to be one of the last refuges in the urban setting where the city’s dog walkers can walk their dogs in a safe environment and breathe some fresh air. #SFSU
