Our family is planning a to visit five of the California National Parks this summer. We are based in Michigan but plan on flying to San Francisco and visiting Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Lassen, Redwoods and Alcatraz. The kicker to our trip is being we are doing it with our three children one who is wheelchair bound. We hope to be an example to other families that it is possible to get out there and show kids what our country has to offer and give memorable experiences regardless of physici-al ability. Are there any good books regarding accessibility and parks? I haven’t been able to find any and in my experience the park rangers have given the best advise regarding accessible trails although we can still carry her in a backpack (she will be five and half and roughly 60 pounds) this summer. We hope to do a lot of hiking!
Sincerely,
Yosemite National Park
