National Parks Group Encouraged by Increases to Everglades Restoration Budget

Statement by John Adornato, Sun Coast Regional Director

“Governor Scott’s proposed increases for Everglades restoration to $40 million and Florida Forever to $15 million is a step in the right direction. We need to continue working with the Governor, our Florida elected officials and our federal partners to continue to invest in restoring America’s Everglades, and bring jobs to Florida.

“We have seen unprecedented progress for Everglades restoration over the last three years. Restoration projects have generated more than 10,500 jobs and thousands more are expected to be created over the next several decades. We are encouraged to see that our elected officials recognize the return on investment that Everglades restoration has for Floridians and all Americans.

“Everglades restoration replenishes and protects drinking water for 1-in-3 Floridians and is a critical economic generator for the state. For every dollar invested in Everglades restoration, $4 is generated in economic benefits to the public. We must continue to work with our elected officials and federal partners to support and maximize our investment in the Everglades, one of America’s most treasured places.”
