It was 1988 when we first brought our children to Southwest Harbor and Acadia National Park. Honestly, I have lost count of how many times my wife, Susan, and I have been back, my best guess is somewhere between 15 and 20 times in the last 26 years. We had visited Acadia in 1974 when Susan was pregnant with our first child. I cannot recall specifically why we decided to return with our children, but I suspect I was the combination of our love of the outdoors and the absolutely picture postcard views virtually every where we looked. This is not an exaggeration!
Of course, then there is our love of seafood, lobster, crab, scallops, mussels and haddock. And our love of nature, the ocean, the mountains, the wildlife on the land and in the sea, geology, miles of trails to hike, bike, and climb, infinite places to sit and read and relax, clean air, cool summers and, on and on. This is why we keep coming back.
Acadia has something for everyone.
Sincerely,
Acadia National Park
Along the rugged coastline of Maine, this gem of the Northeast offers ocean shoreline, coastal forests, remote islands, rocky mountains and historic lighthouses. With 45 miles of historic carriage roads to bike and 125 miles of trails to hike, Acadia is a premier destination for the adventurous and outdoorsy.
