Every national park I’ve visited holds a special place in my heart. We make it a point to explore at least one new national park each year, and when we’re lucky, we get to visit even more. Mount Rainier, however, stands out as the park where I had my first snowshoeing experience—and where I got engaged. My fiancé proposed to me at Glacier Point during a whiteout, and it was nothing short of magical. The moment was exhilarating, romantic, and, best of all, we had the entire mountain to ourselves. National parks are the center of our vacations, our happy places. We cherish them deeply, and it’s so important that we protect them for future generations.
Sincerely,
Mount Rainier National Park
Majestic Mount Rainier is the highest peak in the Cascade Range and an active volcano with more glaciers than any other mountain in the United States. Just an hour's drive from Seattle, the park's wild landscape feels much further from civilization. The forests, parkland, wetlands, lakes and rivers offer 260 miles of trails and varied habitat to dozens of plant and animal species.

“I also teach AP environmental science. Besides the fact that our national parks are important historical and environmental places to visit, they play a major role in keeping our country habitable. Have we not learned from cartoons like wall-e and the lorax or real man-made disasters like the dust bowl? If we destroy our natural lands, we will decrease our lands productivity and eventually could make our planet uninhabitable . ”
