Greetings from Mesa Verde National Park

Just came back from a solo 2 week tour of the National and State Parks. Before leaving on this trip, I purchased the “Senior Pass” card for $10.00! This saved me a ton of money…Entry fees into the Parks (State Parks allowed interagency passes - National Parks Senior Pass - and thus saved there also), and 50% discount on camping fees! At Mesa Verde, they also had two wonderful tours (“Balcony House” and “Long House” tours) for $5.00 each! The campgrounds were amazing plus the amenities were outrageous…free HOT showers, WiFi at each campsite, inexpensive laundry facilities, and a well stocked general store! With all these savings and ALL that the National Parks provide (not to mention how they are saving/maintaining the wilderness areas), how could I NOT donate to this wonderful agency!

I also visited Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Capitol Reef, Kodachrome Basin, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley and Lake Powell on the same trip. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip that I wont forget!

Sincerely,
Stephen Lindsey

Mesa Verde National Park

This World Heritage Site preserves more than 600 cliff dwellings typical of the Ancestral Puebloan culture, which lasted from about 450 to 1300. The allure of this park is not only the remarkable ruins, but also the mystery of the people who inhabited them.

“As mentioned above, the National Parks do a great job in preserving and maintaining our wilderness. They also help make it possible for us to enjoy nature by subsidizing the experience for senior citizens. Because I texted all my photos of my adventure as they happened, my ENTIRE family (from Los Angeles, Hawaii, Detroit, Paris/France, Vancouver/Canada) have been inspired to visit the National Parks. They did not realize how beautiful they are in person.”

Fall in Mesa Verde reminds us of the beginning of a new time of preparation and resiliency in a harsh desert climate. These months represent harvest, gathering, and time spent with community, similarly to the Ancient Puebloan communities that have lived here for thousands of years before us.

This Ranger has been a NPS Ranger for a LONG time and her knowledge and wisdom are incredible! I wish I knew her name. She was giving our tour on May 23, 2015.
