My love of National Parks began in college. I attended UMASS Amherst, and discovered how homesick one can be for the seaside. By January of my first academic year, a good friend and I would discuss our love of the ocean and beach. We decided that the next weekend we would drive to Eastham, on the outer cape. It was a long drive, the weather, being January, was icy cold, but we enjoyed our day on the beach immensely! We were also surprised at how many people were out walking that cold winter day! The memory of that day, the pristine beach and the many fellow citizens and visitors enjoying their time, has remained with me now 44 years. Since then I have visited many National Parks ( Sleeping Bear Dunes, most recently) and plan on seeing them all one day. I can’ t express how grateful I am for the National Parks.
Sincerely,
Cape Cod National Seashore
Famous for its windswept beaches and spectacular views, Cape Cod National Seashore offers a quintessentially New England experience, from Nauset Lighthouse to the seaside cottages that nestle among the dunes. The park’s 43,000 acres make up most of the curving peninsula between Chatham and Provincetown, featuring barrier islands, pine and oak forests, wild cranberry bogs, kettle ponds, tidal flats, and historic structures from the area's long maritime history.
