Growing up, my mom was from Maine, every summer, our vacation was in Maine to visit with family, but also stay in a cabin along the beach. My happy childhood was spent at Acadia and surrounding areas, walking trails, watching the sun come up at Cadillac Mountain, going to hear the thunder at the Thunderhole. I have lost my parents, and taught for 20 years in VA. All I wanted was to come back home to Maine. I finally did move back in October of 2018. I have been back to Acadia every year since coming back. It not only brings back fond memories of me, my three siblings and my parents. But it still thrills me and awes me. The beauty, the fun, the sunrise early in the morning. It brings me comfort everytime.
Sincerely,
Acadia National Park
Along the rugged coastline of Maine, this gem of the Northeast offers ocean shoreline, coastal forests, remote islands, rocky mountains and historic lighthouses. With 45 miles of historic carriage roads to bike and 125 miles of trails to hike, Acadia is a premier destination for the adventurous and outdoorsy. Among the park’s granite peaks is Cadillac Mountain, which at 1,530 feet stands as the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast.

“They are awe-inspiring, beautiful untamed areas, and bring me closer to my higher power than any building can. I grew up going to parks, I learned of nature and how places heal even when man does not step in. ”
