My June 1993 visit to Glacier came towards the tail end of a months-long road trip. I’d already had to change a flat on the ALCAN (Alaska-Canada Highway) and was struck by a hit and run driver in Canada. By the time I crossed the border into Montana, I was driving a wrecked car in which the AC no longer worked. I also had the blown tire strapped to the roof of the car because I’d paid for road hazard insurance on the tires and was determined to recover the price-gouging $80 I’d paid to get a new tire in a remote part of Alaska. Therefore, I was very hot and tired when I reached Glacier.
The big smile in this picture is due not only to the beauty of one of my favorite parks, but more importantly, to the fact that I’d just taken the opportunity to sit on a rock with my bare feet soaking in the lake. I recall that it looked and felt like heaven.
End of story – I think I recovered $12 on the tire and was really mad I’d spent the last weeks of that trip hauling it back to CO! : (
