In December 2015, my wife, Mary, & I decided to write a book celebrating, in 2016, NPS’s first 100 years. We started writing with a visit New Year’s Day to the C&O Canal, completed the book in June, now available as an e-Book on Amazon, The National Park Service Turns One Hundred, and concluded the year with our visit to America’s first National Park, Yellowstone National Park, over New Year’s 2016/2017! Glorious! Simply glorious! Thank you NPS! Thank you NPCA! Mary & Forrest Heaton
Sincerely,
Yellowstone National Park
America's first national park is named after the river that runs through it. Within the park's massive boundaries, visitors can find mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and some of the most concentrated geothermal activity in the world. The park has 60% of the world’s geysers, as well as hot springs and mud pots. It is also home to diverse wildlife with the largest concentration of mammals in the Lower 48 states, including grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk.
State(s): Idaho Montana, Wyoming,
Established: 1872
