Greetings from Mesa Verde National Park

We applaud all rangers and staff at our precious national park system and just can’t thank them enough for all they do. We visited Mesa verde in the summer of 2023 and as we listened to the ranger discuss certain aspects of park to a group of people we realized that not just anyone can do these jobs. Each park is unique and requires specific training unique to that park. This expertise is so valuable and we are worried for the future of our parks as changes are being made in a devastating way to these precious treasures. We visited the visitor center at Mesa Verde which is a beautiful facility. The clerk who helped me at checkout was very informative and I found it interesting that she was a direct descendant of the Pueblo people who settled in the area. Some of the greatest stories come out of these visitor centers and the staff there are always helpful and very courteous. I am a Colorado native and it felt good to visit the park again after many years since my last visit.

Sincerely,
Lou Ann

Mesa Verde National Park

This World Heritage Site preserves more than 600 cliff dwellings typical of the Ancestral Puebloan culture, which lasted from about 450 to 1300. The allure of this park is not only the remarkable ruins, but also the mystery of the people who inhabited them.

“They are our nations treasures. I have been visiting the national parks and monuments since I was a child and support of them has always been a part of my life. They should be treated as treasures and the people who work in the national park system are our hero’s and should be valued for the work they do. In December of 2023 I visited canyon of the Ancients National Monument and we were there at the end of the day. A staff member was ending her shift and needed to get on the road before it got dark to drive the two hours required to get home. This monument is not listed in my parks passport book which I am sorry to see as it was a great place to visit with beautiful exhibits and extremely knowledgeable staff. In college I worked one summer at Dinosaur National Monument and it was the honor of my lifetime. Too many stories to tell but all experiences have been so memorable. Today we continue to visit national parks with our daughter and hope to for many years to come. ”
