Growing up in the 50’s and early 60’s my parents took us three kids to the Nat'l parks and monuments out east when we went back to visit the relatives. In the late 70’s and early 80’s we took our kids to several nat'l parks and monuments in SD, WY, CO, UT, AZ, CA, and NM. Then after I was single again my best friend and I traveled all over the US and up into Canada seeing as many Nat'l parks and other sites as we could in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Since then I’ve lost my traveling partner to dementia and have been traveling on my own. I enjoyed many ranger programs over this time and hope I can continue to travel for several years so I can see the many Nat'l parks I haven’t seen yet including Great Basin, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Redwoods, Bryce, Denali and maybe Volcanoes in Hawaii. I would like to get back to see more of some of the others I’ve been to already. I hoped to see Great Basin on the way to my daughters in the Denver area a few weeks ago, but the government shutdown interfered with that idea. I’ll try again next year. THANK YOU Nat'l Parks Cons. Assoc. for providing all of the breathtaking views and educational opportunities for us to enjoy and grow from.
Sincerely,
Great Basin National Park
The diversity of natural beauty at this park makes it a must-see destination for outdoor lovers — the hardest part is knowing where to start. Climb or take a scenic drive up Wheeler Peak, the park’s iconic 13,000-foot mountain, for spectacular views; wander through groves of 3,000-year-old bristlecone pines; take a ranger-led tour through the marble and limestone halls of Lehman Caves; and hike or backpack among pristine alpine lakes. At night, visitors can enjoy exceptionally dark skies and excellent astronomy programs.
