Join Alan Spears for a discussion with Lucas St. Clair and Kristen Brengel about the majestic Maine Woods and why it should become our next national park. Together they will share with you stories of the incredible partnerships and efforts underway to protect and preserve this special land for generations to come.
Deep in the interior of northern Maine lies a vast, nearly primeval forest that has captivated visitors for centuries. In the mid-1800’s Henry David Thoreau embarked on a transformative journey through these Maine Woods. “Nature must have cooperated with art here,” he wrote of the wild and lush wilderness. Thoreau was drawn to the region’s heavenly vistas, and after climbing Mount Katahdin, called for the creation of “national preserves.” Today, the remarkable land that inspired one of America’s foremost conservationists is on the precipice of becoming our next national park.
