Position on Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018

NPCA, along with partners, sent the following position to members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture ahead of a markup scheduled for June 13, 2018.

On behalf of our millions of members and supporters, we urge you to support the bipartisan effort to craft a farm bill largely free of controversial provisions, and to oppose all amendments to the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (Senate Farm Bill) that weaken protections for conservation programs, communities, wildlife, forests, and other public lands.

Controversial measures that undermine our working lands and land conservation programs, farm worker protections, national forests, endangered species, water quality, public input or judicial review bring no additional votes for final passage. Rather, such amendments unnecessarily invite opposition and make final passage more difficult.

We urge you to vote “no” on all amendments that weaken protections for conservation programs, communities, wildlife, forests and other public lands in Wednesday’s mark-up of the Senate Farm Bill.
